Mechanism of Action

Vitamin D receptors (VDR) are expressed in hair follicle keratinocytes and play a critical role in hair follicle cycling, particularly the transition from telogen to anagen. Vitamin D also modulates the immune system — relevant to alopecia areata — and regulates genes involved in keratinocyte differentiation.
