Rosemary oil contains carnosic acid and rosmarinic acid, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It may improve microcirculation to the scalp and has demonstrated in vitro inhibition of 5-alpha reductase. The anti-inflammatory effects may reduce follicular miniaturization.
